Mammals of Buxton Heath
There are mammals of all sizes at Buxton Heath, ranging from tiny Shrews, through Rabbits and Foxes, to the giant Red Deer. A few years ago, the 'wild list' was augmented by the grazing stock: sheep and cattle, and now we have a long-term grazing workforce of Dartmoor ponies on the site.
To complete the list, maybe we need to include the hundreds of volunteers who have visited the site as members of Buxton Heath Wildlife Group, plus the many visiting naturalists, the children of local schools, and the local people who have visited and worked on the Heath. Hmmm .. on reflection, maybe I'll just stick to listing the 'wild' mammals with 4 legs !
A species list (minus Homo sapiens) will appear here soon !
