The Wet Heath - a transition zone
To the north and south of the valley mire, we find transition zones between the very wet areas, and the very dry acidic heathland. These zones are known as wet heath, and it is here that we find the majority of the Cross-leaved Heath Erica tetralix, which is the heather that likes to "get its feet wet". Other plants enjoying these areas are Common Cotton Grass, the insectivorous Round-leaved Sundew, and the Marsh Gentian.
