Directions:
Buxton Heath is located in the village of Hevingham, about 10 miles north of Norwich. There are 2 main access routes from Norwich:
1) Take the Cromer Road from Norwich and drive (carefully!) through the village of Hevingham. At the top of the hill you will see Hevingham church appear on the right, and you need to turn left (opposite to it) into Church Lane. From there, it's a fairly long, windy road to the Buxton Heath entrance (which is situated fairly near to the Holt Road).
2) Take the Holt Road from Norwich, passing through Horsford, continuing past the signs for Hevingham village, and also passing the Marsham Arms Inn and restaurant on the right. Eventually you will reach the small road on the right, appropriately called 'The Heath'. Turn into this, and the entrance track to Buxton Heath is about 100 yards in from the Holt Road, on the left. There is a small car park situated inside.
PLEASE NOTE: Dogs MUST be kept on leads at all times as there are usually grazing animals on the site. The types used include sheep and cattle, and at present (February 2014) we have 10 Dartmoor ponies on the site. The ponies should NOT be approached as they are, in effect, wild animals, and may bite or kick if they feel threatened.
No flowers must be picked, or plants dug up and removed. This is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and also a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Although we want you to enjoy your visit, heavy penalties exist for those caught removing flora and fauna from the site, as well as for those causing damage to the site, whether it be the dumping of rubbish, damaging the sensitive areas, or polluting the site in any way.
Buxton Heath has a stock-proof perimeter fence with access gates. Please ensure that the gates are closed behind you.
