Welcome to Buxton Heath SSSI's NEW web site, which incorporates the history of Buxton Heath Wildlife Group (BHWG), carers of the site for over 20 years!
On these pages we explain why this place in Hevingham, Norfolk is so special, and also highlight its unique features. There is an introduction to the rare 'star' species of the site, and we explain how the management work is tailored to protect and conserve them. The newsletters of BHWG, and the associated photo gallery, provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the running of a voluntary conservation group, which we hope the visitor will find interesting.
An aerial view of Buxton Heath, taken on 4th November 2001 by Colin Penny. Special thanks to Mr John McLeod, aircraft owner and pilot. This was the 11th aerial survey of Buxton Heath since the formation of Buxton Heath Wildlife Group on 16th May 1992.
